2016 saw the production of a great example of Sauzet's Puligny Combettes which is often regarded as his best 1er Cru. The Combettes vineyard is interesting because it has all of the mineral quality of Puligny mixed with the nutty and honeyed character of great Meursault. In the scheme of 2016, only Henri Boillot's Combettes went head to head with Sauzet. We have a limited amount if this excellent Premier Cru at an attractive price.
Note: also from a full 1 ha parcel of 50+ year old vines that saw 40% new wood
Tasting note: Vestiges of post-bottling sulfur don't completely mask the otherwise elegant citrus, white pear and acacia blossom aromas. The detailed, intense and concentrated medium weight plus flavors possess excellent drive on the refined, pure and strikingly long finish. As is often the case, this classy effort takes best in show for the Sauzet 1ers in 2016. Sweet Spot - Outstanding - Allen meadows - Burghound
