Body bags and ice coolers are being brought in with humanitarian relief supplies as the death toll from Hurricane Dorian rises to 43. A total of 400,000 people have been affected in both the Grand Bahama and Abaco Islands as rescue and recovery operations are underway. Residents are rushing to port areas in hopes of securing safety on cruise ships bringing people to southern Florida. HHRD's team is in the Bahamas making necessary preparations to provide assistance.

Preliminary needs include safe water, food, sanitary and hygiene measures.

Hurricane Dorians has done $7 billion worth of damage to the Bahamas in what is being labeled as a 'humanitarian crisis' by the Bahamas Financial Service Ministry. The road to recovery is long as residents continue to look for missing loved ones buried beneath the rubble or in some cases swept out to sea. This category 5 hurricane spent 24 hours lashing 220 mph wind gusts and 20 foot storm surges over the Abaco, Grand Bahama, and New Providence Islands with an intensity the area had never seen.
