Azienda Agricola Montevetrano is situated in the Monti Picentini Regional Park in southern Italy's Campania region and is named after the famous medieval Roman castle nearby. Owner Silvia Imparato and winemaker Riccardo Cotarella focus on the region’s famous grape varietal, Aglianico, and they essentially produce Super Tuscan style wines that substitute Aglianico for Sangiovese. Thus, their flagship bottling, Colli di Salerno IGT, is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Aglianico and 20% Merlot.
GVWM is pleased to offer this jewel from an often-overlooked region in southern Italy at 9% below the market average price.
Montevetrano is a deep and elegant wine that in a modern way speaks about its land in the world. Deep ruby-red in color, aromas of blackberries and spices complement undertones of black currants, licorice, tobacco, earth, and leather. On the palate, Montevetrano is full-bodied, yet elegant with fine-grained tannins and a rich, silky texture. - Winery notes
98 JS: "I love the polish and complexity to this red. It delivers subtle currant, dried herb and spice character as well as a full body that is tight and focused. Such polished tannins. It goes on for minutes. One of the best vintages in years!" - James Suckling
94 VM: "Deep purple-ruby. Rich aromas of dark plum, black currant, cedar, graphite and minerals on the captivating nose. Then clean, fresh and juicy, offering flavors similar to the aromas and an extremely refined mouthfeel. Licorice and violet elements feature on the long, graceful, multilayered finish. Very promising young Montevetrano." - Ian D'Agata, Vinous
