Chateau Meyney is one of the oldest estates in all of the Medoc and can trace its heritage back as far as 1662 when its vineyards were associated with the nearby convent. Situated on a mound and several hilltops that overlook the Gironde estuary, its 126 acres of vines are contained within one solid block and are comprised of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot with an average age of 30-40 years old. Similar to Petrus, the soil under their vineyards is comprised of perfectly-drained gravel overlying a 3m deep layer of the legendary blue clay... The vineyards are certified sustainable and fully hand-harvested prior to vinification with an annual production of approximately 160,000 bottles. This current release being a blend of 49% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Petit Verdot.

The 2016 vintage in Bordeaux was an excellent vintage that benefited especially well from the weather conditions which initially started wet but then turned virtually bone dry through the end of the harvest, which resulted in outstanding wines.

"The wines are full and dense, with ripe tannins and generous fruit. The secret ingredient in the success of these wines is their crisp acidity, and that balance is what makes a great Bordeaux vintage" - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast

96 JS: "Wild nose. Impressive, deep hue and a wealth of fresh, violet-like aromas, as well as cassis, graphite and dark cherries. The palate has a very sleek, fine, powerful core of tannins that bring a lot of depth and deliver rich dark-fruit flavor. A classic Meyney. Best since 1961! Try from 2023." - James Suckling

94 DE: "Rich and full, this is very St-Estephe: round through the mid-palate, with an amazingly tasty balance of richness and freshness leading to salinity and minerality on the finish. It will need another five to eight years before being ready to drink, but it has to be one of the value picks of the vintage." - Jane Anson, Decanter

93 VM: "The 2016 Meyney is powerful and absolutely delicious. Black fruit, torrefaction, smoke, licorice and bittersweet chocolate flavors are dark and boldly sketched. Beams of firm tannin add to the wine's imposing, brooding personality. All the elements fall into place effortlessly in this ample, broad Saint-Estephe." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

92 WS: "Solidly built, with a dark and juicy core of currant, plum and blackberry reduction flavors, inlaid with charcoal and smoldering tobacco notes. Offers a pleasant loamy tug through the finish. Gutsy wine. The better of two bottles tasted. Best from 2022 through 2032. 15,000 cases made." - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator
