Help The Alumni Society Get 5K Members By Our Fifth Anniversary!

We're constantly expanding and inviting more Latino alumni from our university alliances to provide you with a high-caliber network, but we can't do it alone. As a trusted member of The Alumni Society, we turn to you to help us build our network and help us get to five thousand members by our fifth anniversary (year-end 2020)!

So, what’s the Back-to-School Challenge?

For the next two weeks, we're asking you to refer Latino leaders in your networks to join The Alumni Society and have a chance at winning bragging rights if your alma mater receives the most points between September 13th and 30th. Additionally, the Society member with the most referrals will receive a Society swag box!

Here's How the Challenge Works:

  1. Get your amigo/a to join The Alumni Society. To qualify, they must be a Latino leader with seven-plus years of professional experience and have obtained a degree from one or more of our nineteen university alliances (see here for the full list).

Here’s how you help your amigo/a to join:
    - Fill out the referral form for them
    - Forward the join form link directly to them

  2. Repeat step one through September 30th while we tally each school's referrals and new joiners
    - A school gets a point for each referral and each new Society member
    - The school with the most points, WINS

  3. We'll announce the winning school and the Society member with most referrals on October 2nd

Who's ready for Back-to-School?

New Member Spotlight

Lourdes Slater

Founder and CEO of Karta Legal LLC (Georgetown, Penn)

Where are you from (city, state, heritage)?

I'm from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. I am Boricua/Latina.

What is something interesting about you?

I am a lawyer turned technologist, turned process expert, turned change instigator, turned innovator.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

I help law firms and legal departments think outside the traditional box and reimagine the delivery of legal services, thereby having a hand in designing the future of the profession. That is both my passion and my mission.

What is your greatest career accomplishment?

I am very proud to have worked in the architecting and management of the logistics, operations, and legal processes of two of the most high profile and successful cases of the 2010-2020 decade, both on the plaintiffs' side (the first, representing the Trustee in the Bernie Madoff Bankruptcy litigation; the second, representing the FDIC and several Federal Home Loan Banks in the RMBS litigation).

What are you looking to gain from The Alumni Society?

To coalesce with others seeking to make a difference in placing Latino leaders at the top levels in business and government. To meet and network with like-minded successful professionals, with a shared heritage, who are seeking to make a difference. And to make some strong friendships in the process.

Like Father, Like Daughter: A Spotlight on Two Alumni Society Members

Roberto Carmona is rightfully proud of his daughter, Tonantzin Carmona. A graduate of Northwestern University, Tonantzin is now an MPA candidate at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where she is enrolled in the same Mid-Career Master program her father enrolled in during his time at the school.

“Many of The Alumni Society members are parents, were inspired by their parents, and one day may become parents," Roberto says. "Alumni Society members, as well as academic and professional accomplishments, create legacies of excellence and open new possibilities for generations to come.”
