YESTERDAY: March 29

What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be fine, fine, fine
'Cause I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five

FROM MONDAY'S MORNING REPORT: March 23, 2020

image

The day saw the Dow close up 691 points and the SPX closed up 85.18, yet the market is seemingly almost boring. The day opened slightly higher, and just kept climbing all day.

This was a surprise given that Oil fell below $20 per barrel, and over the weekend president Trump extended the quarantine by 2 weeks.

TODAY: March 31

END OF QUARTER

Hard to say—Probably higher

VIRUS

We have had a good run higher as we enter into the two weeks where the coronavirus numbers will scare the s*#t out of people. The math is simple but still sneaks up and surprises the media. Every 4 days, the numbers double until the peak, and then it falls.

image

Again, the math is simple and we will likely see the peak around April 18th. By Friday night, we should see 328,000 confirmed cases. An increase is likely the result of better testing kits, now that we threw out the crap China was selling (that didn't work). A number less than that will only be the result of the social distancing working.

Fundamentals

Despite falling oil, horrible economic numbers and a delayed end of the quarantine, the market was higher yesterday. If that isn't bullish, nothing is.

End of Quarter

It is the end of the quarter. A re-balancing of portfolios needs to be done, especially with asset allocation. Owners of a stock and bond portfolio will be selling their bonds at all-time highs and buying stocks that are well off the lows.

S&P 500 Price Limits

From 8:30 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. CST, there are successive price limits corresponding to 7%, 13%, and 20% declines below the previous trading day’s reference price.

From 2:25 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. CST close of the cash equity market, only the 20% price limit will be applicable.

2020 ONE-YEAR PREDICTION:
Average year with lots of inter42mittent volatility
(-18.7% so far)

POT Logo

We cleaned up a lot yesterday, all attempts to get on cheap condors were a waste of time, but we did do a very wide BWB example.
