Hello Eizell.

The day started with some bank earnings that disappointed, but were not as frightening as people feared. Prior to the open and the earnings, you could sense that anything short of a disaster beyond anyone's comprehension was going to send stocks higher. The E-Minis were up 30 points prior to earnings even being released.

After the release of some company earnings that expectantly disappointed, the market took off higher with the SPX opening higher by 45 points. Within the first hour, the Mini SPX futures were higher by 80 points with the Dow advancing 500 points.

Most of the day, the SPX gently bounced around SPX 2810 (about +50) and SPX 2840 (+80). The same stocks that took us to all-time highs last year were the ones in charge today. AMD, AAL, AMZN, GOOGL, and FB were the largest bulls with AAPL closing higher by 13.80 (287.05).

TODAY: April 15

Minis are down -20 at the time of this writing, indicating a -200 Dow opening, but I am not taking that into consideration. There is so much buying going on that I would not be surprised if we close higher on the day, even though we have run off the lows (probably) too fast.

Think about it... just 2 – 3 weeks ago, the market was down over 30% for the year (35% from highs) and now we are down only 12% with the NASDAQ almost unchanged. The government added $2.2 trillion and the Fed even more. That money is propping up the markets.

S&P 500 Price Limits

From 8:30 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. CST, there are successive price limits corresponding to 7%, 13%, and 20% declines below the previous trading day’s reference price.

From 2:25 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. CST close of the cash equity market, only the 20% price limit will be applicable.
