Thanks to my son, Dash, for being involved. Although, given that he's been doing school work from the office for weeks, it was bound to happen.

Hello, Dennis.

WooHoo! We're getting closer to opening again.

We're back to training in groups outside again, which is fantastic. Although we obviously need to remain vigilant regarding cleanliness and social distancing (especially as experts are now suggesting that we'll never actually be rid of COVID-19).

Short of something going horribly wrong, I'm optimistic about gyms opening in a matter of weeks. Which is a lot better than the six months that many of us were bracing ourselves for.

Are you looking for work? We're super pleased to see these great operators getting on the front foot and beginning the process of re-building their post-shutdown teams;

  • FTI (1)
  • Get Going (6)

"GIVE ME GAINS OR GIVE ME DEATH"

From the Guardian, "On Monday, a group of gym-goers assembled outside a courthouse in Clearwater, Florida, waving American flags while doing push-ups and squats on camera. The protesters held up placards saying “Give me gains or give me death.”"

That's two thumbs up from me, just for the placard.

I WISH I'D KNOWN ABOUT THIS EARLIER

GYMLEND - It's a website where clubs and studios can rent out their equipment to clients (and others). I'm aware that during the shutdown many clubs and studios have hired out their equipment. If I'd known about this earlier, I would've put it out there.

YOUR OLDER CLIENTS NEED YOU (& WEIGHTS)

Sometimes it helps to have an independent source back up everything you've been saying. So when encouraging your older clients back to training, or at least getting them to follow your direction in isolation, send them the link to this article "The exercise older Australians need to incorporate into their day."

68 BITS OF UNSOLICITED ADVICE

I was recently alerted to this post by Kevin Kelly. On his 68th birthday he put together 68 pithy bits of unsolicited advice which he offers 'as my birthday present to all of you.' He also has an article on '1000 true fans' which was aimed at the creative community but I think has value for fitness professionals that are interested going beyond just those clients we see day to day.

BOOK QUOTES I'VE ENJOYED:

"When people know how their work makes a difference, they feel energized to contribute more." (Adam Grant, Give and Take)

"Your job isn’t to get people to buy your stuff; your job is to matter to them. ... Your brand can become part of their story. You can shape culture, communicate beauty, stimulate thought, and inspire action. You don’t have to be in business just to sell a pile of stuff." (Bernadette Jiwa, The Fortune Cookie Principle)

"Your education doesn't end at graduation, it begins." (Peter Voogd, 6 Months to 6 Figures)

Have a great week and please get in touch if there is anything we can do to help. And if you have any questions you'd like answered in future videos, please send them through.

Regards,
