Casanuova delle Cerbaie has just 25 acres of Sangiovese situated on prime sites on the hill of Montosoli near the village of Montalcino in Tuscany. Winemaker Paolo Vagaggini has rapidly carved out a reputation as a superstar in the making, having worked at Fuligni, Il Palazzone and Biondi-Santi, and is a master of all things Sangiovese that crafts elegant, small-production artisanal wines in a straightforward, classical style. Tradition is a hallmark at the estate and everything is done manually from harvesting the vineyards to grape selection, sorting and bottling of the winery's annual production of ~35,000 bottles. In general, 2012 was a great vintage for Brunello, although the yields were lower by up to 30% due to an intense drought, with Kerin O'Keefe of Wine Enthusiast remarking "Overall, 2012 is a Sangiovese lover’s vintage..."
96 JS: "Beautiful clarity on the nose with lavender, raspberry and violet aromas. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a long, fresh and simply fantastic finish. Best ever. Better in 2021." - James Suckling
