Is your Heart Healthy this Valentine's Day?

The heart is much more than just a symbol of love. It needs attention all year round, not just on Valentine's day! In this week's article we get to the heart of the matter and cover everything you need to know about heart health from cardiac arrest and CPR, to heart attacks and high blood pressure. This includes informative videos plus an app to let you know where to locate your nearest potentially life-saving defibrillator. The heart is one of our most vital organs and fundamental to life, so look after it, not just at times of romantic heartbreak!

How would you manage a heart attack if you were on your own?

More than 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests (when the heart stops beating sufficiently) occur in the UK every year. Someone is taken to hospital with a heart attack every three minutes. Many people will be on their own when they have a heart attack. It is vital to know how to help yourself if you are alone and think you’re having a heart attack. This article will guide you through what to do if you experience discomfort in your chest, along your left Arm or jaw and feel seriously ill. Know the warning signs off by heart!

Can dogs give blood?

Blood transfusions are not just for humans! Pet Blood Bank UK is a charity that offers a canine blood bank. Launched in 2007, it is the only charity of its kind in the country. Run as a voluntary scheme just like the human blood bank service, dogs from all over the country give blood at one of their many sessions.
